Meet Dr. Michel

Dr. Leighanne Michel grew up on Long Island. As a child, regardless of the season she played competitive sports and became a collegiate athlete, playing softball at Hamilton College. She then earned her medical degree at the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine where she chose an osteopathic degree for its holistic focus to treatment. After graduating medical school she completed her residency in Emergency Medicine at Morristown Medical Center.

After finishing her training she lived in Atlanta, GA and Baton Rouge, LA working in suburban and urban hospital settings. During her time in the South she became acutely aware of the different challenges people faced as a result of ignoring their health. She often wondered how she could make a difference outside of the emergency room. After a 5 year southern tour she and her husband decided to return to New Jersey and make it home. She enjoyed her formative emergency medicine years at Morristown so much that she returned there to work clinically as well as teach the next generation of doctors.

Still thinking about her experiences with patients who could have avoided chronic diseases, and their complications, Dr. Michel pursued fellowship certification in obesity medicine. In 2024 Dr. Michel was named a Diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine and she is a current member of the Obesity Medicine Association. Using the tools and education of both Emergency and Obesity Medicine Dr. Michel is excited to help patients be healthy and prevent future conditions.

While no longer playing softball, Dr. Michel participates in “Mom Athletics” chasing after her two energetic sons and rescue dog, Chloe. She also enjoys playing tennis, hiking, skiing and going to the beach. She is excited to share her passion for wellness with you!
